Lower Alignment (Anti-Sway) Insulators
|
Lower alignment insulators or "anti-sway" or "stabilizer" insulators, as they are more commonly known, are typically
provided on each high voltage guide frame to maintain the stability and the alignment of the lower extremity of each
high voltage section. Lower alignment insulators are affixed on one end to the lower high voltage frame with the opposite
end affixed to a grounded portion of the precipitator (either the collecting plates, the casing, or the hopper wall).
Lower alignment insulators are constructed of porcelain or alumina and are shaped in either a flat bar (for horizontal placement)
or in a solid round bar (for either horizontal or vertical placement). Lower alignment insulators are supplied with or
without an outer surface glaze as dedicated customer or application requirements. |

Lower alignment insulators are designed to resist any lateral forces that might be generated in the lower guide of the high
voltage section(s) and to prevent "swinging" of the lower high voltage framing, which otherwise would degrade precipitator
performance as a result of reduced electrical clearances and lower power levels.
