Electrostatic Precipitator Red-Key Lockout
On jobsites today, it is not uncommon to find safety procedures that require that any lockout key used by any craft be kept
in a central lock box maintained by the site safety official when work is performed on equipment. The premise of this central
lockout is to cause a final safety check to be made upon completion of work and prior to the re-commencement of operations.
In the red-key lockout system, an extra key is provided in the key transfer box. The extra key is colored red, for ease of
identification. The red key can be removed only when all transformer-rectifiers are grounded and access door keys can be released.
Upon its removal, the red key is placed in the safety official's lockbox. Transformer-Rectifier keys cannot be released from
the key transfer box until the safety official returns the red key to the transfer box.
The Red-Key Lockout is an inexpensive means by which to attain compliance with today's safety requirements.
