U2ATM (On-Site Urea to Ammonia Generation)
U2ATM is an innovative, patented system (US Patent No. 6,077,491) which generates ammonia on-site for various processes, such as SCR, SNCR, SNCR-SCR Hybrid, etc.
|
|
Both anhydrous and aqueous ammonia have been classified by the EPA as regulated toxic substances. Hazards from exposure vary from minor discomfort, to toxic poisoning and asphyxiation. Therefore ammonia restrictions, or even prohibition laws in some areas, have been enacted by local authorities. Sometimes these measures are put into place after other ammonia storage and delivery systems are installed, forcing the end user to replace the entire system.
|
To counter this risk and ensure the safety of plant personnel and the surrounding community, Hamon offers a patented
On site Urea-to-Ammonia Generation System, U2ATM, that produces ammonia by a method that avoids the hazards of its transportation, transfer, and storage. In addition, there are economic benefits versus using unregulated lower concentrations of aqueous ammonia
|
|
Benign dry urea is transported to the site and mixed with water to form an aqueous solution of varying concentration (typ. 40-50%) depending on the application. The solution is then fed to an in-line hydrolysis reactor.
The reactor vessel is typically constructed of 316L stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Inside the hydrolysis reactor, heat is applied to the entering solution. Both steam and electric heat are available as design options depending on site availability and application requirements.
|
The heat is applied to maintain a constant ammonia pressure. The ammonia production is exponentially proportional to the
temperature of the urea solution. As more ammonia is required, more heat is added to increase the production and maintain
the reactor pressure. Ammonia generation begins at 240°F (116°C). The reactor is designed so that throughout the
operating range of a particular application the temperature range is typically 280-310°F (138-154°C).
The product gas is a mixture of ammonia (NH3), carbon
dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O) and may
be used in any application where ammonia is required (Such as SNCRs).
The U2A system may
be used in any industry requiring ammonia for its processes including, Power, Petrochemical, Steel
and other Metal Production, Pulp & Paper, Cement, Glass, Waste to Energy, Nitric Acid Production, etc.
The U2ATM ammonia generation system
is designed for exceptional turn down (better than 20/1), minimal
ammonia inventory, and exceptionally safe, reliable operation. Once the system is installed, it is
fully automatic and requires minimal operator attention.
